Witch & Wizard

Witch & Wizard

Seventeen-year-old Whit Allgood and his 15-year-old sister, Wisty, lead average lives. Wisty is a bit on the rebellious side, while Whit plays on the football team and has a sweet girlfriend named Celia --- or at least he did have a girlfriend named Celia before she disappeared a while back. Things like that have been happening more and more lately, ever since “The One Who Is The One” took control of the city and implemented the New Order (N.O.) government. Freedom is being snatched away, books and music are outlawed, and troublemakers mysteriously disappear in the middle of the night. But most shocking of all is what happens next.

The N.O. army forces its way into the Allgood home in the dead of night and arrests Whit and Wisty --- for being a wizard and a witch! They protest; there is no way they could be guilty of these charges. But the army locks them up, leaving them to await their trial. Whit and Wisty notice right away that they’re not alone in their predicament --- there are many other children locked up in there, all awaiting trial and its bleak outcome.

The siblings don’t have to wait long for a trial, one that turns out to be a joke anyway. They are sentenced to death on their 18th birthday, which for Whit is just a few weeks away. But what can they do? While they rot and starve in their dingy cells, they notice things that hint that the witch and wizard charges are in fact true as they begin to discover the strange, unusual powers they possess. If only they could control them and use them to escape…

But then unexpected help arrives when Whit’s girlfriend shows up…as a ghost. She’s been murdered by the N.O, and now she shows them a way to escape by slipping through a portal into the Shadowland, one of many different levels to the world that Whit and Wisty hadn’t known about before their lives turned upside down and inside out.

Celia and some other new friends lead the siblings to a safe house filled with other refugees. They are organizing to strike against the N.O. and rescue the other prisoners held by The One Who Is The One. It is an almost impossible goal, but with Whit and Wisty beginning to master their powers, they might just have a chance. Emphasis on “might.”
