Interview: J. Torres, author of Jinx

She's been around since the '40s, but it's taken this long for Lil Jinx to reach high school! Now writer J. Torres is tackling the newly revamped teen series and taking on the big issues of teen life today, from love and homework to dealing with parents, bullying, sexism, and more. It's a broad-reaching series with great ambitions, and we talked to Torres about what makes Jinx such a good-luck charm.

In Susan Mallery’s new novel, BAREFOOT SEASON, a young army vet returns to her home on Blackberry Island to recover from the perils of war, but is unexpectedly forced to confront her former best friend, whom she betrayed years ago. Grace McCleen’s debut novel, THE LAND OF DECORATION, is the story of 10-year-old Judith McPherson, who is ostracized for her religious beliefs in school, but finds solace in a miniature model of the Promised Land that she calls “The Land of Decoration.” In this interview, McCleen points to parallels between her main character and herself, including the creation of miniature worlds. She also discusses the unique course of her writing career and gives her opinion about modern-day religion.
